About
Background
In Europe, art education is considered essential for a well-rounded education, focusing on creativity, critical thinking, and cultural awareness through visual arts, music, theater, and dance. Educational systems and policies vary across countries, but art education is generally part of the regular curriculum in primary and secondary schools. Some countries integrate it into all subjects, while others teach it separately. Many countries have national curricula defining the knowledge and skills for different educational stages, often including digital technologies. EU institutions recognize the positive impact of artistic education on motivation, learning skills, creativity, and innovation, aiming to make it a more integral part of education. Recent UNESCO efforts aim to develop a global framework for culture and arts education, emphasizing the need for innovative methods and joint efforts to provide high-quality education.
